Captain Grey and his party thus became the first Europeans to traverse the Irwin District and note the extent of the lush pastoral country in the Irwin Basin. From this time on, the area gradually became settled. This progress was understandably slow because of the distances involved and the slowness of available means of transport. The Shire of Irwin Community Assistance Maneuver is to provide assistance to not for profit community based organizations, event organizers and individuals to promote the promotion and development of social, economic, recreational, art and cultural projects that make a definite contribution to the quality of life within the Shire of Irwin. The Irwin Recreation center is a friendly and vibrant health and leisure fitness center that provides both social and active programs and opportunities for the complete family. The Irwin Amusement center offers very flexible membership options that allow for the changing needs of members and can decrease some of the risks when taking out a lengthy term fitness membership.
